custom acoustics at the jbp library, university of bradford
“the colours and the shapes bring the whole floor together”
the university of bradford supports its students with the installation of custom acoustics, reducing sound reverberation while also honing in on some of the beautiful features of the moorland surrounding bradford.
giving students their quiet space
fitted at head and hearing height, the screens will help enhance concentration by absorbing ambient noise, providing a more focused study environment for students working at shared tables.
bespoke design
for this project we designed and produced 18 bespoke screen which have been installed as area dividers, each showcasing moorland themes reflecting the landscapes surrounding bradford. drawing inspiration from the rolling green hills, limestone outcrops, and the iconic top withens farmhouse ruins (famous from Wuthering Heights), we’ve used our expertise to transform these into 3D custom acoustic screens.
while visiting the site just days before the final handover we had the pleasure of meeting kirsty carver, head of library services at the university. she commented upon the screens and here is what she had to say:
"They’re just wonderful… It’s made our library unique and special. I don’t know of any other academic library in the country that has such a feature… a beautiful job. We are really pleased."
It’s been an absolute pleasure collaborating on this project with:
- Chris Beddis NECReg of Sycamore Square Group – Project Management
- Lee Benson, Jack Trathen of Construction Dynamics (North) Ltd – Main Contractors
- Kirsty Carver – Head of Library Services, University of Bradford
